Built in 1923 at Doncaster Works from Nigel Gresley’s design, the LNER class A3 4472 Flying Scotsman was a 4-6-2 ‘Pacific’ steam locomotive that plied the famous rail line tying London to Edinburgh for more than 40 years, logging over 2,000,000 miles. It’s the first locomotive engine to officially clock in at over 100 mph and heralded a new era in travel for glamour and comfort.
